Thanks for the script. I look forward to trying it out.
Your whole site is a very interesting read... have you thought about outfitting your TAIG mill w/ a DRO? I just got my PCBs in... and am getting ready to send off a digikey order for the parts. Just not sure right now when/how/what feedback device I'm going to use... IE scale or encoder. Wishes someone had a detailed "how to" posted on outfitting DROs to TAIG mills. Bookmarking your page... chk out my worklog for the TAIG mill here: http://www.wizdforums.co.uk/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=3069
Have I thought of adding DRO? Yes, maybe for a second. And then decided that it is not for me. A couple of reasons:
- as long as my steppers don't miss steps or stall (and they don't), I have a pretty accurate measurement of my position already - mounting DRO would be challenging - taig is a small machine - DRO is generally not cheap, and this is just one of my hobbies
I too am very much interested in your article. Much like you I'm in the process of building my own CNC machine mainly for milling circuit boards.
Once I decided to do this I felt that I needed to be sure I had the capacity to learn all this before spending the big bucks involved. I began by learning the Eagle and Mach3 programs(which took me a great amount of time before I felt comfortable with them). I then set up the breakout board, drivers, and stepper motors and did some dry runs on Mach3. I started getting the hardware components for XYZ machine which leads me into another learning process. Some of the linear slides (Ebay) needed the bearing changed out (these are little guys). This undertaking has been the most rewarding experience for me. Since I'm retired and not press for time or deadlines, I can work on any aspect I choose. Ever since I've started all this I've never did get a clear picture of the milling PBC making process. Most articles I've found dealt with the acid process. So by monitoring this site maybe I can begin to learn this process. Thanks for the article and the site. bill
Glad to see you found some useful bits here, Bill.
Like you, I am taking my time, and it does take quite a bit of time to learn just the basics. Unlike you, I have too many other things competing for my time (like work! Good luck with your endeavours!
very interesting, thanks for a fun and intuitive read! (I am contemplating using multi L298's as well, which is how I found your webspace).
